Setting Up A Fully Remote Photoshoot

We thrive when we create

Ever since the onset of the shelter in place, we’ve been in a catch-22: should we continue creating or remain stagnant? Under these circumstances, it is so easy to yield our creativity but we’re all dreamers and we cannot let our skills become stale. We must persevere and overcome this challenge. That’s when our own captivity ushers in innovation.

A Helping Hand

Mac House was founded on the principle of helping people discover what they love and it’s an ideal that founder Viet Mac has promoted through his passion to create. There’s no better time for us to do our part by offering complimentary photography services.

Our aim is to elevate the confidence of those who may have lost their jobs due to the pandemic by providing new studio headshots for them to use when they return to the workforce. For families, we want to offer family photos as a symbol of overcoming great obstacles and maintaining strong family bonds. All this can be accomplished all while social distancing.

Using Technology with Creativity

Achieving this feat in the most practical and safe way required a bit of creative and critical thinking. The capabilities of off-site remote control are advantageous. We’ve used this form of technology to access our server and work on projects remotely. So, if we’re able to control a computer from the comfort of our home, why can’t we trigger a camera’s shutter as well?

When we work on photo projects, we tether our DSLR to Capture One which allows us to take full control of our camera’s settings. Now, by remotely accessing Capture One we’re able to snap a photo. That takes care of the picture, but what about the lights? The strobes are connected to a smart plug which enables them to be controlled via a wifi connection. This allows us to switch them on and off via an app.

How It Works

  1. Sign up below with the time and date desired
  2. Arrive at the time and date booked, call us to unlock the door.
  3. Once inside you’ll be the only one in the studio and we’ll communicate via video call

That’s A Wrap

Our remote-controlled photoshoot wrapped up the month of May. We had such an awesome time with our guests and delivering new headshots for them. If you missed this opportunity and would like to learn more about how we can collaborate you can contact us at create@machouse.com.
